Localization off the table?

Good day. What is the current status of the localizations? If I remember correctly, at the beginning was the statement, one integrates fan patches directly into the game. This has not happened yet. Now it is also so (and not unexpected) that the fan patch for my language is apparently not continued. This is also completely valid, that a person does not give his free time for one thing, because he dedicates himself to other topics.
Will something else come from Matrix itself in terms of localizations or is the topic off the table? In the meantime, I have no real desire for Matrix/Slitherine games that are not localized. Matrix/Slitherine is beyond the status of an underdog by now. More can be expected. But at least a concrete statement. What can be expected in terms of localization for Distant Worlds? Thanks for an updated statement on the subject.

Axel.

Nothing can be said about this?

Localization is very much something that's planned, but to do it and integrate it properly means that we need some additional features which are tied to the improved mod support.

When the improved mod support is completed, support integrated localization is planned to follow. There is a German localization and a Spanish localization done already (one by the community, one by our internal team) as far as I am aware, but both are only possible as manual installs now.

We don't have a timeline on this other than "next year".

Regards,

- Erik

Thank you for the answer. I am of course pleased if the theme is still to be implemented. But the danger remains: if you leave the implementation to a private person in their free time, the danger will increase (exponentially?) with increasing distance to the release date that the person will no longer make their free time available to a company. Better indeed would be to take this into one's own hands just like for the spanish version. Even if it's done later, as was the case with Old World by Mowhawk Games, for example. Well, let's see when the localised version is 'officially' released.

Meanwhile, DW2 1.1.6.7 has also been localized into my language - by fans. It would still be better for Slitherine/Matrix to do it themselves and not leave it to unpaid volunteers. If you introduce Slitherine Group as 'world's leading producer and publisher of digital wargames and strategy games', at least a game that you want to position among other industry giants should at least have a localization in a handful of languages. Nobody says that Sanskrit or Latin should be translated as well (or every other game). There are really much smaller companies that can do this properly. Too bad. The desire to buy DLCs has indeed evaporated for this game.

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately we haven't been able to prioritize this above other issues and improvements for DW2 yet, but we still plan to do official localization in the future.
