Hi to all,
Iwas just hoping for some input on people's experiences with blizzard in the first winter. I'm currently playing the soviets & I've just finished my first turn of 1942. The thing is, it is about the 5th or 6th straight turn of blizzard! I was wondering wether other players have experienced such bad weather! or wether this was abnormally bad.

I also wondered what people thought of the idea of instead of shattering the germans would retreat with heavy losses Especially guns etc. The idea being the russians gain a breathing space & some experience for 42 but not the catastrophic losses for the germans they seem to be incurring ie way above what historically occurred.

Hi Von Cone-on! Someone has conducted a test on the frequency of the Great 1941/2 Blizzard.

In my current game, like you, I experienced eight consecutive turns of blizzard between December and February.

There are ways for the human player to minimize the risk of shattering during the Great Blizzard. Due to my conquest of Leningrad in mid September ’41, I did not encounter any Soviet Counteroffensive. In addition, I ceased all offensive operations at the beginning of October to allow my troops to dig in for the winter. Moreover, I relied on air supply to raise the level of my least combat ready korps. By contrast, special supply would consume too many operation points, which could be quite costly once they drop below 50. Last but not least, I interdicted the strongest Soviet frontline korps to reduce their readiness.

Having said all these, I am only playing against good old Artificial Idiot.:D

I have something to add. Incidentally, whenever a Korps retreats, it already sustains a heavy loss of its guns and armor. While I cannot verify it, I would presume that the extent of the loss is a function of leadership and probably readiness. For instance, a certain Zhukov seems to lose less guns and armor even as the armies that he is commanding are pulverized.

Therefore, your suggestion has already been included in WIR.

Possum 6 works better with wir 3.2 which in my opinion is a better version and has a better winter.
:)

Better winter?

Matt,

When you say "better winter," what do you mean? Is there less shattering in 3.2? The notes for 3.3 say there is less shattering in the newer version, but it seems like there is more shattering than ever. Also, why do you play Possum 6? I have read posts that say possum mods shift the balance of the game to make it easier for the Russians, which is exactly what I don't want.

I am looking for a challenging, historically accurate version of WIR to play as the Russians. Would you suggest 3.2 with possum 6? If so, where can I get possum 6?

Thanks for your time.

Eric

Even though this post was not directed at me, you may download Possum 6 at The WIR Experience.
