5"/38MK12 Gun: Device #55

In the Editor there is a listing for "Device #055" a 5"/38MK12 Gun.
This is a DP gun and it is also listed in all of the Databases in the game scenarios.
I am not talking about the numerous variations of this gun that have Device # 1622-1627 for the various mounts used on ships. These can be found on lots of ships.
In the Editor #55 has an Accuracy of 200. The others have much lower accuracy. In the Naval Database the "gun" has a
"Rate of Fire" of 20 while the others have a ROF of only 6. I found no mention of ROF in the Editor.
I have not been able to find where the #55 "gun" is used.
My questions are:
1. What does the accuracy number really mean?
2. Where is the #055 gun used in the game?
3. How does "Rate of Fire" impact the game?

1. The accuracy figure takes into account range and rate of fire of the gun when fired at maximum rate. Of course there is also an accuracy factor for the quality of the gun - for example the Japanese Zero 20mm gun is not as good as the 20mm Hispano cannon used by some Allied fighters, but in fighters where the guns is mounted also counts - centerline mounts are easier to aim than wing mounts so they get a better accuracy rating.

2. The device 055 appears to be just the gun barrel without the mount. It had a very good rate of fire for a gun that big but was manually loaded so sustained, max rate fire would be impossible. Devices 1622 and 1624 are on the mounts used by most USN DDs and new vessels and their accuracy number is reduced to 62. I presume device 055 is there for a theoretical gun that could be put on a mount that has automatic loading and aiming - a 5" machine cannon!

3. As mentioned, ROF is rolled into the accuracy since it increase the chances of a hit or damaging near miss.

Thanks.
If I am reading your posting right, the accuracy is just one factor in determining if a hit is scored by a device.
So, in looking at different devices with different accuracies the numbers are simply a way to compare the devices.

The low numbered naval gun devices and some other stuff in the same section are the devices from the original WITP - the WITP AE stuff is further down (1622-1627 for the 5in/38 for example).
