Too complex

I am finding the whole updating process far too complex. I messed up the move to 5 somehow. Did not know how to fix so I then went to reinstall... so I get 3.0, I then update to 3.2, hot patch to 4.2, then hot patch to 5??? OK seriously? am I missing something? 4 steps??? ... ohh and then my friend has issues with the netplay registration file when he updates... I have the game. I bought the game (6 times). One number should be good enough to get to netlplay, not my registration number, plus my matrix game call sign, plus my matrix games PW (if remembered). I am finding this far from seemless. Sorry. just a bit frustrated with four hours likely wasted because I did not read the instruction properly, and yeah I get it. If you play with hot patches, you will have to accept more than a light demand for comp fluency. Nonetheless.

It's a hot patch... in the past, all you had to do was unzip the file and replace the MWIF.exe file. Have not done this patch, but that is how it used to be. You can even save the old MWIF.exe under another name like 4.XXMWIF.exe and run the old version simultaneously. If it is a simple zip file, just save the old executable and replace it with the new. Nothing else has to be done... providing your current version is the latest before the hot patch.

I just downloaded the patch. Have not installed it yet... but it looks like you need the latest version, 4.XX or whatever it is. Do not run the updater for a hot patch, though. Just extract the files to a folder and then drag the contents of the various folders into the same named folders in the World in Flames area on your drive. The executable replaces the 4.xx version. I would, perhaps, copy the folders that I am putting new stuff into in case you wish to go back to the 4.XX version. I would also rename the MWIF.exe to something like 4XXMWIF.exe so you can easily return to that version.

To install Hot Patch version 05.00.00.10 when installing the game from scratch, should only involve these steps

Download WorldInFlames-SetupRelease-v03.00.01.00.zip from the Members Area or the Store Page. Extract the files from the zip file to a new folder, and run the installer.

Next download the Beta Update v04.04.01.00 (WorldInFlames-UpdateComp-v04.04.01.00-BETA.zip) from the Members Area or Store Page. Again, extract the files from the zip file to a new folder, and run the installer.

Then apply the Hot Patch MWIF 05 00 00 10.zip update. This requires manually copying the files from the zip file into the location where you installed your game, making sure that you overwrite all files when prompted.

You don't need to apply every interim update/hot patch in between. The reference in the Hot Patch 5 00 00 10 update post, requiring Public Beta 04.02.00.00 is a minimum version requirement. The public beta update v04.04.01.00 located on the Store Page or Members Area will meet this requirement as well.

The Update v03.00.02.00 file located on the Members Area/Store Page is considerably smaller in size and allows upgrading for those folks who install the game from the original DVD version 1.00 release.
