I think I checked the manual pretty good and don't see it. What Changes when you right click a unit change its role? I understand the definition of the unit roles, but what does it change, orders, SOP, can't seem to find it in the manual. If right click and change a recce unit's role to overwatch what does that mean in practical terms.

This is about issuing group orders. So, you select a group of units (either by shift-click for click-by-click adding to the group or control click to select designate a group by a segment of the OB), then give a movement order.

The Role of each unit drives the unit position in the formation. Section 27 talks about kinds of units in the Roles. The sequence of Roles as listed in Section 27 is the order of march by Role. Unit types have their starting Role defined in the National Data Excel file and that is how they start.
