In our PBEM there are 6 hexes in Thailand and 1 in Malaya that are highlighted in red when I hit the S key. They also have the shovel/pick axe symbol or whatever it is. In addition the number for the supply level of that hex is in red.
I looked in the manual but couldn't find anything about rail conversion as I have controlled those hexes for at least 4 turns. All the hexes are indicated as under USA control. Last turn Thailand surrendered if that is a factor. Can anyone tell me why those hexes are still not converted for Allied use and how long it takes to convert? Thanks.

I will take a screenshot when it is my turn as it is currently the Japanese turn. Just for reference, the 7 hexes in Thailand are 35,57 36,57 37,56 37,55 38,56 39,56 and 38,55. I thought there were 6 but actually 7 in Thailand.

In Malaysia it is hex 34,49

I believe rail converts 1 hex at a time and ONLY if the hexes are in supply and connected via rail.

NOW based on what you stated most of those hexes only had connection to Bangkok so would not be repaired until you took over that location and they were in supply connected via rail. Rail should start to repair now out of Bangkok.

So think of rail repair this way...

The rail you are attempting to repair MUST have the following.

1) Be in supply
2) Be connected via rail to a rail line that goes back to a port and that port must be in supply.

Then and only then will 1 hex of rail repair.

A screen shot would have made it easier...but hope this helps.

Ok, thanks for the info. Here is a screenshot of the current status. I hold both Bangkok and Singapore. That single hex in Malaysia is a real head scratcher as I took Singapore probably about 4 or 5 turns ago. You can see from the screen shot that it is USA controlled As for Bangkok this is the second turn I have controlled it.
You can see at the side of the screen where it indicated that a number of units were only in basic supply even though they were sitting on hexes with a 9 supply level.
So what must be happening is that single hex is preventing the supply of Singapore and Kaula Lampur and am only getting supply from Bangkok and Rangoon which only can supply a total of 240. As you can see I have a lot more units then that.

Don't forget that could be sabotage...

You do control someone else's country.

I just moved an Allied unit adjacent to the single hex in Malaya that is highlighted in red. However, I never even considered saboteur considering that Malaya was conquered by Japan and the Allies have liberated it. That would be like saying that there would be saboteurs in India when the Allied take back hexes from the Japs.

This is Thailand which was allied to Japanese in your above example. It happened to me as well. I have also seen UK partisans in Malaya when it is occupied by Japanese.

You are correct, it is Thailand which hopefully explains that single hex. I will know when it is my turn.

To be honest, until I played this game I wasn't aware that Thailand was allied to Japan and I've read a lot of books on the Pacific theatre. However there aren't as many books on that part of conflict compared to the island hopping campaign, the naval battles in the central Pacific or MacArthur's campaign to take back the Philippines.
