When I try to install the update I get a message that an error occurred when trying to open an FTP file. What do I do?

Sounds like you are trying to update when running the game. If you bought the game directly from Matrix I would go to "My Page", sign in and download the file under WITE2. Then run the download file to update the game (with the game not running of course). If you are a Steam user someone more versed with Steam will have to help you.
