Units in stationary position stop engaging each other

I have seen this behavior a few times. When at least one of the two units are moving, they will fire at each other, but once both stopped, they will stop fighting. This is especially egregious when a Soviet unit ends an "assault" command right on top of a NATO unit: if the NATO unit is not completely destroyed during the approach, they will just sit on the same square and chill out together. Get the Soviet new movement order and the shooting will restart...

Same. And it totally ruins the game experience for REDFOR players.

Is this related to the latest official patch? I just noticed that the spotting might be reduced with the latest but that could just be a wrong impression.
is the units stop engage each other happen in a dense urban hex? If so, the same situation could happen IRL. Remember there is a video from war in Ukraine, it was shot by UAV, you can see the Russian and Ukraine platoon size AFV marching on two parallel dirt roads less than 200m in a woods. Neither side notice the other side are so close to them.

But spotting issue might exist.

There are two dug in 2S6 in hex 4209. I have M3, M981A3 and AH-1, all three units have very good spotting on that hex, but could not see them. it is also interesting that the 2S6 cannot see the AH-1
only after probably 2 more turn I spotted the 2S6, when I put another M3 plt in the hex 4111.

Oh, by the way, the Tunguska plt is very resilient. After I spotted it, I asked a MLRS to drop ICM, but it didn't achieve a kill. So I reload the save, asked all three MLRS to drop ICM on it, it killed one Tunguska.

By checking the unit dashboard I can tell that they did find the enemy, which should obviously be a bug.

The Tungushka in urban terrain really are hard to kill, being dug-in amongst cover (buildings). It really needs an ICM submunition to drop right on top of a Tunguska in order to kill it, which might not be as likely as you expect. Here's a diagnostic plot from re-running your save, where the two Tungushka survive by not getting hit directly.

I highlighted 4209 on this pic. 4209 hex is an open terrain.

If I check the 'spottable from' for the dug-in Tunguska's, they can be visually spotted from out to 500m, thermal spotted from out to 950m, and radar spotted from out to 1800m. (And, not shown, the Tunguska's radar emissions can be picked up from further out, but you have no units capable of detecting radar emissions and locating the source).
In order to spot something in a hex, you need to have the sensors to look into that hex (which you have), and the unit to spot needs to be observable out to your range (by the same sensors), which you haven't until a M3 moves into 4111.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes prefect sense now.
Well, I guess that also means a hold fire, dug in, small size units hiding on a dense forest hill that is 1 - 2 hex away from the main road can be an extremely dangerous OP!
We will need a lots of platoon size units to do combat patrol around these suspicious looking area proactively !
And here comes a game feature request, please add the option to split Soviets Co. into platoon in the future DLC.
