Air Transport?

Okay, I have three options for the air war:

(1) Hands off AI selected in game options, but for a few parameters for AOGs.

(2) AI assistance invoked during the air planning phase. (with user override)

(3) No AI and full user control.

Suppose I chose #1 or #2, and I want to fly freight after I completed my ground unit moves. If it was manual, I would hit F9 and fly it. For AI support, do I just hit the AI support, and will it automatically fly freight missions with transport or unused bombers where it thinks it is necessary?

Ultimately, I am going to do my own air war. This is just temporary.

Thanks.

In the first two cases, the AI itself carries out the transportation of goods by aircraft. But you can also do them manually.

In the first two, do I need to click on the AI assist button or will it do that when I hit end turn?

Thanks.

In the first case, you definitely do not need to press anything. In the second case, you need to press the AI help button at the end of the turn, as far as I remember. In general, in the second option, the AI help button is pressed twice, at the beginning and at the end of each turn.

I always go with 2. I use the AI to plan out the directives which I will then review and accept or modify and cancel while adding new ones. The AI usually does a decent job of coming up with recommendations that make sense as long as you set your "Stance" and "Doctrine" correctly.

re: Air Transport. Yes, you have to press the AI AIR button a second time at the end of your turn to trigger it. Note that you can order the AI to either supply units or air bases. As I recall, you have to right click on the transport unit icon and tell it to stop following a ground HQ to trigger air base resupply. It is explained in the manual. In the 41 Campaign as German, I find it more useful to keep my forward air bases supplied.
