Attacker takes far too high casualties

Personally I've only had this with the Western Allies as attacks (might not be related)
Not sure if every time there was an AT on the defender (might not be related)
Suggestion: as a quick fix, put a large cap on the max casualties the attack can take, in this screenshot 3 units just disappeared (from full) and the remaining two, well you can see the image

Defending general seems to be Subordinate whenever this happens (may not be related)

If the algorithms for combat results are in any way isolated or separate from the rest of the code, I'd be happy to take a look

Just got another of these results. Online game v1.20 vs ncc where I am Axis.
I did NOT save my turn, but exited. Perhaps this savegame can be used to test.

Does the issue occur if the unit does not retreat?
Have not seen that in any of the posts. That seems to be a common theme.

Had a few results that were harsh but still plausible. But as far as I can remember, this is the first in my games where the problem was obvious. It is in a PBEM game.

Has this been figured out yet? This unit should have been crushed with few losses to the attacker yet here are the results. My units are now decimated for another couple of turns.
