DLC Install Breaks Game

I ordered the Strategic Command American Civil War Game and the War in the America's DLC today.

I installed the base game on Steam and it was working normally (V 1.06.00). I then installed the DLC and it broke the game. Specifically, when I start the game now it still presents the Main Menu page. But when I click the "Single Player" option the "Select Campaign" screen comes up but there's no data on it (no campaign names/dates)...there's nothing to select. Also, if I select the "Settings" screen, it locks the game and there's no way back to the main menu.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game several times. I also tried to reinstall the base game only, by deselecting the "Install DLC" tab in the Steam properties section. Nothing works, the game is broken.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi

It's best to contact support as they'll hopefully be able to get this sorted for you very quickly:

Hi Bill,

I tried their first idea (which was to launch the game as an administrator) and that didn't work.

If I understand it correctly, the DLC was developed to run under V 1.05.00. Since I just got the game, my base game is V 1.06.00. Could there be some compatibility issue with trying to install the DLC with V 1.06.00?

Hi Scpeth,

Just jumping in here and sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing. Since this is a Steam install, the set of files required to play v1.06 as well as the DLC should automatically be handled by Steam, e.g. it should just set the files needed accordingly for you and in theory it should just run fine after that as it is for everyone else on Steam.

Whether you started with v1.05, or after with v1.06, and whenever you apply the DLC, e.g. you can turn the DLC on or off at any time within the Steam properties setting for the game, will make no difference, it should again in theory all just all work as that is how Steam handles things and one of the benefits of games under Steam.

The errors you are reporting are also quite unique and the first I've heard of them, e.g. campaigns not being listed etc, so at this point we can only guess what might have happened, but something has corrupted on your end for sure.

What I can suggest is to perhaps double check your anti virus software as some of the data for the game is being recalled from the USER Documents folder, typically this on most systems:

\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command - American Civil War

Some anti virus software can be set to be very protective of the Documents folder and prevent access to that folder, and changes to files, e.g. this is where some custom campaign data is stored as well as the settings file for the game, and if this is the case, it could be what is causing the issues for you when attempting to load the game and navigate those sub screens.

Let me know if this helps,
Hubert

Hi Hubert,

Thank you so much for the advice. I just use standard Windows Security, but it appears it WAS blocking access to a file. I now have the base game back up and running. Having a problem reinstalling the DLC but I imagine I can work through that with the Steam/Matrix folks.

Thanks again. LOVE your games!!
