Team - new to wite2. A quick question for air war : i have automated air assistance enabled. Basis what i have understood from manual , i have to deal with 1)day/night 2)pilot replacement 3)stance 4)hq following 5)supply/priority 6)assets. When i'm finished with all, DO I HAVE TO PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE BUTTONS
MENU WHICH HIGHLIGHTS THAT I HAVE ENABLED AUTOMATED SYSTEM OR I JUST PRESS "EXECUTE AIR DIRECTIVES" ? And if ai performs the directives how i can see the results (ground support does not seem to show results ,possibly due to the fact that ground support is given during my ground moves ?)
Many thanks in advance for your answers and please forgive me if this sounds like a silly question.

I think you just hit the F12 button 2 times per turn, and the air AI is invoked; one for air phase missions and once for air base moves.
I think the X for Ground Support toggle is still active during movement phase.. You may only want to send you your planes when a battle is going to be a close call.
Remember you do need give your air command some basic info for it intuit your intent.
Good hunting!

The AI is probably going to set up GS AD for you. I believe you can still control whether GS is on or off for each battle you launch with the X key. You may want to evaluate your need as per toggling.
There is also doctrine. Doctrine is used for creation of AD either by you or the AI. You might want to alter doctrine as to pace your plane use or to get more bang for the buck.
I have been doing a number of varied play throughs of ROAD TO LENINGRAD as the axis. I do my own everything, but for TB's at this point. I would go with the AI's pre-plan for T1 as the Axis of the war. But after? Tac Recon is set at 22,000'. I find that at that altitude they spot no units, and give me no intel (now they may do better on airfields at that altitude). It seems to me at 9,000', I get a very good picture of Red Army intent. Are they moving forward looking to cut a supply line or pulling back for their final defense of Leningrad?
---
Also, you may want to still vary those top level parameters even when letting the AI manage.
For example:
* Is it worth letting your air assets advance and consume valuable freight from units at the front? I think on a per ton basis ground units deliver more than air units. So, you might want to turn down supply priority or have them hold and not in competition on the very edge of your supply lines.
* When the weather goes bad, you may want to halt those generated ADs and put the LW on reduced rations, because perhaps they will not achieve much in horrible weather. So, ground them, and put them on survival rations.
Just some thoughts. I haven't played the GC yet, but I get the impression that it is very much about resource management. (again I am by no means an expert ... just a guy playing and having fun)

During winter the Luftwaffe should be sent to the Reserves TB. They will have nothing to do in the bad weather. They also will get damaged even if they just sit (as do tanks) and they will attract precious supplies.

I'm not sure that is a good idea actually, since I believe that erases pilot data. I might be wrong but I think so at least.
Preferably you send it to regroup around OKL at Berlin I think as soon as heavy rain is the norm.

Well, I was thinking mainly of Road to Leningrad and not the GC. Except for gaining or losing CU/SU from the Reserve TB, there isn't much fancy TB footwork to be done in 4 months.
I agree that the GC is a whole different animal, and calls for more nuanced management.
If I recall correctly, you send AOGs to the TB-R to refit and train faster. It is when you disband an AG or AOG, the pilots get reset.
