Supply unit in conquered country

The Italian supply unit had marched into Libya from Eritrea but was still deep in the Libyan desert when Libya was conquered. To my surprise, the unit was teleported to the southmost Sicilian hex. (Italy still controls all of Sicily.) I can find no rule stating that this happens. For that matter I can't find any rule stating what happens to the supply unit.

My reading of the rules would be that a supply unit is a land unit, so that on conquest, the hex that the supply unit is in should stay Italian, and the supply unit stays there. However, supply units do not change ownership of hexes they enter. But this is not changing ownership, this is preventing the other player from changing ownership. Aaargghhh!!

Does anyone know what RAW says should happen?

My inclination is that the supply unit should remain where it is, and that the control in the hex it is in is changed to the nationality of the conqueror.

Correct. The supply unit should not be teleported out of Lybia. It remains an Italian unit, but it is sitting on an Allied controlled hex.
