Basic rules question

I think no one I play regularly with and chat with on discord really ever understands how notionals work. Everyone asks me but I'm never sure either.

If you invade a controlled minor - let's say Japan invades Ceylon - but there is no supply line from Ceylon to any CW HC. Will Ceylon get -1 notional for no basic supply line? Or can Ceylon beach defenders trace to Colombo so they don't get a -1 notional value?

Thanks

A notional unit has the nationality of the unconquered (minor of major) country which is being invaded. When you invade a territory, the notional unit has the nationality of the controlling major power.

So in your example: Ceylon is a minor country aligned to the CW. Therefore the notional unit is a Ceylonese (is that the right word in English?) unit. It has to trace to Colombo to be in supply. It is not a CW unit...
