AI moving units to adjacent hex by unselected path

Annoying habit of the game is to move my unit to a hex I didn't select, causing my unit to collide with an unseen enemy, which I suspected was there and was trying to avoid. I move deliberately one hex at a time, then attempted to move into an adjacent hex. Instead, the AI chose a 2-hex path to get there, taking my unit next to the hex I was trying to avoid. This happens way to often. Green was my chosen path, yellow is what the AI executed when I clicked on the target hex. A player should be able to move a unit one hex without having the AI choose another path.
