What are the basics relative to how stacking limits are determined for land units ?
Merely looking for a high level overview ....

The stacking limit is nine.

I see there are additional qualification factors to my question relative to the game hex scale .... for Equipment Density

- Equipment Density.JPG (77.08 KiB) Viewed 678 times
Movement
# of Horse/Vehicle Teams
Combat
# of allowed active defender equipment
So how can I check
- the # of Horse/Vehicle Teams within any given hex ?
- the allowed # of active defender equipment in any given hex ?
- the actual number of active defender equipment I have in a given hex to compare to the allowed number ?

A colored indicator on the left side of a hex will let you know the status. Green being ok, yellow, orange and red being the progression of density. Often there is no indicator until you get one or more units stacked in a hex.

I've read varying descriptions of what those indicators represented .... this one makes sense ....
To clarify,
Green = Good
Yellow/Orange = you're getting close to limit
Red = You've over threshold ?
And do these colors simultaneously address both the horses/vehicles (movement) AND the relationship of active defender points to allowed within a hex (combat) (sorry, can't remember the term)

And is the colored dots the only indication ? (great visual) but doen't really give me any clue as to how many more units I can add and avoid going over the threshold ..... Or am I missing something ?

No. No dot is "good", any dot means you're going to suffer additional losses because of equipment density. It's a continuous scale with green representing a low penalty and red meaning 2x or higher

The dot only relates to active defender density

When you plan movement to a hex (i.e. select a unit and hover over a hex in movement range) then the density icon will change to preview what density would be reached by moving the unit to that hex.

Thanks ....
So the dots are exclusive to defender density (combat related) ?
If so, how does one know about horse/vehicle density (movement penalties) ?

The path will show any movement penalties. (Subject to fog-of-war).
