Peru?

I've recently chose "YES" at Ge DE605 and brought Peru into the war on axis side. I'm wondering what is it's usefulness, if any?

I did not notice any convoy routes being created (Peru to Germany), neither any note of Peruvian income at the end-of-turn table, so I assyme that Germany does not benefit from the extra income? If that so, is there any use of this minor country for Germany or the 120 MMPs were probably a waste of resources?

Probably not a good pick. Peru would seem to be of minimal value to Germany. If there were to be convoys, I'm sure the DE Event text would have mentioned them ahead of time. However, the port of Callao might make a good Pacific U-Boat resupply base if you planned that far ahead. In addition, I suppose Peru could invade Chile or Ecuador with Japanese assistance and create an annoying diversion of resources for the USA. Planning ahead would be a must for that kind of operation.

I've never chosen this event. I think it would only be useful if the Axis had some sort of foothold in the Americas already.

No value AFAIK and doesn't it increase US mobilization?

Does it not increase German income? I've seen people take the option and capture Bolivia. That has a mine you can take which may increase income and there may be a NM increase for a new ally and conquering another country. But, I'm just speculating.

Peru isnt that great. Small army, and location isnt good.

Argentina is better to support. It has a bigger army, and you canmake good use of it in South America vs the AI. I doubt a human player would let you get very far though, with an Axis Argentina.

Peru has a mine. Bolivia doesn't but La Paz its capital can be captured easy by the Peruvian corp if so desired. Its actually a good gambit especially in conjunction with the Japanese if they go for Panama. Also, making the DEC to add Peru to the Axis side does not increase US mobilization. Had to deal with this thorn as the Allies. Lima has a port and could be useful as a U-boat base. For Japan not so much as Peru is a German minor if Axis and so a non-cooperating ally.

It will increase US Mobilization, beware. Found out the hard way, like many things in life. Screwed up my Pearl Harbor attack. And Yanks were able to move first.

Germans were fond of Argentina. Didn't some of them relocate in 1945 due to the housing shortages.

It did increase US mobilization? I wonder if it's a variable percentage because I didn't notice a change. Maybe there was and it was tiny and hardly noticeable when my opponent took the DEC.
Luckily I got a recording of those turns mid 1941 and can possibly find out.

Update on this one:

In the PBEM I'm playing as axis, I got Peru and then conquered Bolivia. I've invested 30 or so MPPs for the Corps and received 21 from plundering. I'm guessing axis also benefited from the relative morale boost (Germans troops fighting at the Russian front are thrilled for the Peru campaign & receive morale bonus).

I still don't understand if Germany is receiving any income from Peru.

On the other game my opponent got Peru and I've got a message that "we should blockade Lima to apply diplomatic pressure" or similar. I did sent a naval unit to blockade Lima port to s=0, but it has been like that for a couple of months and nothing particular seems to happen (i.e. Peru surrendering, or changing diplo status or whatever).

Haven't invaded Peru, since playing Conquistador. Pizarro?

Wanna say there was a gold mine worth $100/turn (most in game by far).
Problem was, had to be the Spanish, only those land Conquistador could survive terrain.
Transporting out was major problem, British would ambush on the coast.

Not only is the Port reduced to 0 but Lima is too. So supply for any Peruvian or other unit would be pulled from the nearby 5 supply town of Cuzco. Any Peruvian unit in Lima would have very low supply. Easy for the Americans (or any other of the Allies) to land and take Lima, conquering Peru.
A neutral US can blockade Peru, and another Allied unit at war with Germany could theoretically land and attack there before the US was in the war.
