Hi there, I am currently playing with the latest beta as Japanese, railroad just north of Nanking seems broken. Is this something new that comes with the new beta? Because, railroad seems just fine in older versions of the game.

Historical, the Nationalist Chinese blew up the Yellow River dams and flooded the plains.
They killed 1 million Chinese peasants but the damage to IJA was minimal.

Thank you! So this is the same case in your game as well? I know you're playing the latest beta, just curious.

Yes, WAD.

It probably got overlooked due to its location, but the game map's graphic designer, Andrew Brown added a new "destroyed railway" graphic to the existing map legend in the upper right of the map to help identify those locales where the rail line is out.

Is it possible to have that added for the other destroyed railroads for historical purposes?

Good to know, this will be definetely add another layer of challange. And I am guessing there's no way to repair these destroyed railways?

Inside the game itself, no. Some have suggested editing the PW data file as you go for a workaround but that's just too much under-the-hood micromanagement for me.

I know it adds a bit of historical interest but why is it necessary to display this destroyed rail line? If you could repair/build it in game, then yes it would make sense as it would probably cost less to repair than to build new, but it's not possible and never will be so isn't needed. Just eye candy.

Some have gone to the extent of swapping the PW data file and map at some point in the game specifically to include rail lines and roads built, Burma, Aus, NG etc but this is going to extremes for historically accuracy. It is after all possible that they never got the chance to be built due to how any current game evolves.

In terms of road/rail lines what existed in Dec 41 is what your stuck with.

I don’t think it is just “eye candy” there are railway trails.
There were railway trails in the 26a. They still exist in the new Beta.

Old Manual:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 5#p3533675
Note there was not a graphic for a “destroyed railway” on the older maps….26a.

As above...For the new Beta there is now a graphic shown for a destroyed railway:

From the New Manual:

4.2.1.2 Land Transportation Links

Railway Trail. A railway trail is a class of “road” that represents the ability of units
using normal (non-strategic) movement to travel by foot or vehicle along a
railway roadbed (Major or Minor) through otherwise rough terrain, and there
are no better (Main or Secondary) roads present. While providing faster movement
than when no roads or railway roadbeds are present at all, travel along railway trails
is slower than traveling along Main or Secondary roads (and much slower than
using railway lines for Strategic Movement.

When using Strategic Movement (which represents train transport) to travel
along railway lines, units must be in Strategic Move mode and choose a base
connected to the same railway network as a destination.

Destroyed Railway. A railway line that is now non-operational
(e.g., the tracks are removed or washed away) and can no longer be
Used for strategic movement. The roadbed still acts as a railway trail.

8.3.1.1 Movement along Railway Lines

When both a railway and a road connect two adjacent hexes, land units moving
between the two hexes, and that are NOT in Strategic mode, will use the movement
rate of the road. Units MUST be using Strategic movement to use the
railway movement rates.

When there is a railway connecting two adjacent hexes, but no road
(Main Road or Secondary Road), then there is a special class of road present as well
as the Railway, called a “Railway Trail”. This is a special type of road that simulates
that ability for land units to move along railway roadbeds, which can provide paths
through rough or jungle terrain. Land units that are not using Strategic Movement move
along railway lines (when there is no Main or Secondary Road also present)
at the “Railway Trail” rate.

Should the railways destroyed prior to December 1941 also show as a rail trail in the game? The railbeds should still exist, I guess you would need blocks were bridges or tunnels were destroyed.

The hexside detail (F6) will show if the river is fordable (purple) or impassable (red).
