A use for pirates??

Let me preface this by saying, I'm not a game designer, coder, or modder so I have no idea if this is even feasible. It's just an idea I've been having and messing around with in my head. And I DO think it would be a neat way to add in to the flavor and development of the pirates. Having the pirates be your own army (to a degree)!
As I'm thinking this in my head, it started with races that might want to play as a more passive type of faction. You're just sitting there in the lab, trying to read your book. Or you're a space salesman (hey Ed, here for another load? You've been a loyal customer buying these space rocks, have a hat!). When suddenly- BAM, someone steals your lunch, or breaks a shop window, whatever. Now it's time to call in the muscle.
So as I think it, you'd have to pick out ONE pirate faction. Maybe you have to butter them up a bit (probably), you'd DEFINITELY have to pay them a protection fee (up front, AND monthly?). But now, you can call your boy over and point them out- yeah, that's them over there, that one guy is having soup from my Avengers thermos, you can even see my name on it! And then they get at it.
And you could build ships specifically for your new Adam Baldwin (played the muscle in a similar role in the movie My Bodyguard. yeah, I'm old. shut up about it) that they could come on down to the factory and pick up. And I'm thinking as a down side to this (there has to be one. or some) that they do... other things. Pirates being pirates, well, they do piratey stuff. They may take these new ships they just rolled out with and get in a scrap that you didn't sign up for. So now they don't have near as many as before, and hey, can you make me some new ones? Or maybe as they went to that scrap you didn't sign up for, someone notices your flag on the side. Did you just attack my gas plant?? So there goes some diplomacy you have to deal with. Or just maybe, that's a nice looking gas plant YOU have there (small chance. that would be a bear to have to deal with).
Anyhow, it was just an idea that had gotten into my head. After tossing it around some, I felt the need to get it OUT of my head, so here we are. Kudos to the guys for building and continuing to improve this great game! I can't wait for more to get added in and see where it takes us. Looking forward to getting my Ugnari in!
Cheers!
