Do the LCM's, LCT's and/or barges aid in loading and unloading of TF's that are not docked?

Don't quote me but I do believe they do, as well as the amphibious tractors.

Yes they get an amphibious bonus.

By type they get an amphib bonus when unloading what the brought. I think the question is whether they then go and act as lighters to help ferry stuff from other ships ashore.

IME, they seem to, based on a quick review of what I landed on turn two of an invasion. I counted up what should have offloaded amphibiously from the non-beaching types and looked at their actual change in load. But I can't recall if I accounted for having an Amphibious Command Ship with Amphib Force HQ present.

Do barges etc. help unloading only when they are in the TF, or can they provide assistance even if they are disbanded in port?

How about set up a separate install, make a mod or open a scenario and only input orders for that base only for both sides, then try it out?

The port size unloading rate includes the abstraction of lighters unloading undocked vessels. Actual barges and landing craft I think have to be in a TF. You don't have to give them orders other than "Remain on Station". The Amphibious Truck units are treated more like land units with naval support - they cannot form TFs but once they are landed they continue to increase the unloading rate for undocked ships.

Only in a TF.

I am not sure about this, but I think "imaginary" aka abstracted landing vessels with APA/AKA will also help unloading other ships after that have unloaded their "mothership".

I haven't noticed this before but now I will have to observe more closely. Thanks for the hint.

According to the link below, if I understand correctly…

In addition to barges and other landing craft the following ships when empty provide an unload bonus to a TF unloading ‘over the beach’:

APAs/AKAs
APs/AKs
Japanese merchants during the Bonus phase.

They do need to be in the same TF.

I don't think so. If they are engaged in landing operations they are assumed to be within a few miles of the beach so their boats could reach each other.
I am still unsure of the AP types helping other vessels. APs get their unload bonus from having trained naval crews vs having more boats than a similar xAP. APAs have been modified to carry more boats (stacked vertically) and have more cranes or davits to lower them. The boats presumably get fuel from whatever ship they are unloading, so they only need enough to get to shore and back again or to get from TF to TF and then refueling again. The game doesn't calculate all that - it would be abstracted into a figure representing the presence of empty boats to help unloading. But only testing against the book unload rates by type would reveal if the boats are indeed helping out.
