Auto Engage Targets That Come In Range

Are there settings within CMO that would allow a passive fighter group to auto engage unknown/hostile targets that come with weapons range, i.e. a loitering EMCON passive fighter group engages an unknown/hostile target detected by an AEW asset?

I know I can select the fighter group and then Auto Engage Target or Manual Engage Target, but I'm looking to have the fighter group automatically engage a target without the need for further intervention. Wondering if I can reduce the cognitive load by having fighter groups keep their immediate air space clear without having to constantly check and intervene.

TIA for any help.

Have you tried setting up a mission?

Have you read the manual or played the tutorial scenarios? What you're asking is a basic function of the game - just set up a AAW patrol mission (if you want the aircraft to take off and patrol in an area) or an intercept mission (if you want them to launch from base when a contact is detected).

This is the relevant tutorial for what you want to do.

Start New Game -> Tutorials -> Air Warfare Tutorials -> Flight Tutorial -> Flight Tutorial 2 - Unattended Flight

Thanks all for the feedback, but I thought I had deleted this post. Hence why I've been slow to follow-up.

This was a classic case of user error, aka noobie fuck-up. I was expecting too much of the AI gameplay with automatic engagement of a loitering aircraft on a known hostile that flew in to the vicinity of the aircraft. Having been putting a bit of time in with CMO I've got a better understanding of the games limitations.

Thanks again for the advice.

Actually, its not a limitation. Go to Doctrine and set "engage opportunity targets" to yes. Tutorials aren't perfect, but they can help.
