Ammo usage for precision weapons is too damned high!

Take a look at the difference between ammo consumption when you switch between dumb bombs and precision weapons! Suddenly a single unit can consume thousands of ammunition units and overload your entire logistics network.

It feels a bit off to me. Sure for balance reasons we want precision weapons to be more expensive - but this should be because it consumes lots of high tech - not because it physically weighs more. One would expect that precision weapons would need less basic materials, and you would need to drop less bombs - so less logistic strain.

Vic is this working as intended? The cost is so high that I stopped using these weapons in recent games. Get much more "bang for the buck" just using rockets instead.

Does the AI handle this properly? Will this also cripple their logistics if they try to use it?

It's true that the ammo usage values for aircraft bombs are far more logistically significant than they are for any other model type... But it's not actually different between bombhatch bombs and precision bombs, though? Both use the same amount of ammo relative to their weight.

Precision bombs doesn't actually mean precision weapons, and they don't require hightech at all.

I will gather some proper figures from new game with latest version. It's true that dumb-bombs also use a lot - but precision weapon seemed to use x10 more which was getting ridiculous.

Was no problem to manufacture all that ammo, I had plenty of metal and industrial capacity. But the sudden logistics strain was unexpected.

Maybe we need a new type of "high tech ammunition"?

The required logistics overhead doesn't fit well simulation-wise, but I guess you could think of it as an abstract representation of how much more industrial and logistical capacity high-tech ammunition would take on a wider scale, or something...

You're correct in that the bombhatch options are listed as 10x weight in comparison to precision bombs, but use the same amount of ammo. That is, 2000 kg bombhatch and 200 kg precision bombs both use 20 ammo per round per subunit. The dumb bombs are terrible though, precision bombs and rockets are simply better than them for every purpose.

In terms of precision bombs vs rockets, the latter are better in attacking armoured units since they have better penetration (or so I was told in Discord), but precision bombs are better for damaging assets while still being decent against units. As long as you know beforehand that you pretty much need to build a rail connection to your bomber airbases, I think they're still worth it from a game mechanical perspective.

Bombhatch bombs are rated by the weight of a full bombload, while precision bombs are rated by the weight of 1 bomb out of 10, as stated in the weapon's name. The ammo use is the same for a given bombload.

(And like Magirot pointed out, bombhatch bombs are pretty terrible. The only thing they're arguably better at than rockets or precision bombs is bombing soft targets, but they're still pretty inefficient at it and they're terrible in every other regard in comparison.)

I also don't think the "precision bombs" are supposed to represent modern precision weapons, since they're lower tech than air-to-ground rockets - it's more likely that they represent bombs configured for divebombing or something.

IIRC, the bombhatch type loadout also provides some cargo capacity.
