Quite a few interesting ideas from this article, particularly in ways to leverage the in-game XQ-58 to model near future conflicts. Loadouts with OECM pods, MALD-J, and AARGMs? I am also eager to have a UCAV that can carry AIM-120D.

Thanks for providing the story.
This is a really big story, and could lead to numerous changes in aerial warfare.
CMO has the XQ-58 (which is the standard USAF strike version), and the XQ-222 (which is the USN's multi-purpose strike version and an OECM platform).

I would think that the Navy is most interested the 58 and its ilk because of the runway independence. It would be a significant augment for the Marine's MLR concept its deploying. In fact, it fills a few gaps in the MLR that the Navy would otherwise have to fill.

CMO has many options already to play with these concepts.
The Have Raider can carry the A-120D and the AIM-260 in SIM.

And the MIUS can carry the AIM-120C-7

The Ghost Bat has various sensor loads including OECM.

On the Red side there is the S-70

And both the Navy and AF version are labeled XQ-58 now in the DB.

And there are armed versions of the X-47B and MQ-25

Plus various other high end UCAV platforms like Sharp Sword and nEUROn

Thank you - I took a few months off from the game and missed some of this. Really hoping for a UCAV that is carrier capable and can carry AAM's, but this is a huge expansion of options!
My only issue (again I could be dumb and this has changed) is that you cant mix airframes in a flight, so the player would need a bit of micro to simulate a single F-35 (or whatever) controlling a flight of UCAV's.

Yes you can.

Beautiful - thank you. Time to play around with loyal wingmen!

How are you grouping these different platforms? Just trying to launch them as a group or grouping different aircraft in flight didn't work.

Not familiar with his stuff, but it works in 1307.14, Kushan is running a not released to the public version, 1307.16
Selected 2 different aircraft in the same base, and then launch as group.
Once in the air, unit orders, group operations, group selected units.
In the confirmation window select no.

Just figured that out. Thank you however for confirming.
I want to mention that I posted my ask because I had launched a couple of F-35s and a couple of UAVs and my original issue was that I tried to group of UAVs to the F-35 group that was already formed at launch, and that would not work. I just tested that If I ungroup them and then regroup all the aircraft I can successfully combine them. Hopefully in the future I can launch them grouped.
This is still an awesome thing to be able to do!
This game rocks.

I am mostly interested in how I can write this into a scenario - maybe China gets frisky and wants to try loyal wingman concepts in a Taiwanese strait scenario. Micromanagement does not work if you are programming the AI to do things.
What I hope for is the ability to disperse UCAV's out 20-30 nm from the controlling aircraft, and use CEC to guide in missles. So far I have only had successful CEC using E-2D's and USN airframes with AIM-120D or AIM-260's.
