God save the King (and Queen)

Watching the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. A wonderful occasion. The king has big shoes to fill - but he seems to be a good man and I believe he will prove a worthy successor to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Just a silly question from the US which has no nobility or ideas or understanding of Kings and Queens, but do the British subjects think its better to have a younger king, say in his mid 30s to 40s then to have one that is older like King Charles (74) who is might not reign as long as a 30-40 year old?

Just asking and curious.

Well Zovs I can only speak for myself, but I guess there are swings and roundabouts. QEII was very young, inexperienced (and wasn’t even born to be Queen) but she was a superb monarch. And older doesn’t necessarily mean wiser - although one imagines they will get lots of experience and instruction while waiting in the wings. I guess ultimately it comes down to the person.

But personally I don’t think in those terms, because the rules mean it doesn’t matter if one way is better or not - the King/Queen continue until its time to drop off this mortal coil.

Hopefully Charles III has a good 20 years ahead of him.

I only caught the tail end of it this morning, about the time the Red Arrows did their fly over. CNN will be replaying their full coverage later this evening, so I'm planning on catching that.

During the week, a number of videos of various units doing their parade rehearsal drills showed up in my feed. The news channels, all British, interviewed a number of the soldiers and they all seemed to be delighted at being a part of the Coronation. A number of them even mentioning with pride that they had family members in service who took part in QEII's Coronation. I was struck by that because, in my experience, soldiers almost universally hate doing parades.
