How to Tell Mech Infantry to Go on Foot?

I find myself taking a lot of casualties crossing open ground while assaulting enemy held positions. This is mostly because when my APCs get blown up it happens with infantry still inside them.
If possible I'd like to have my mech rifles advance alongside their APCs towards an enemy position, not inside. I give them "Assault" orders but this doesn't seem to do the trick. Any ideas?

You control your dismounts via the SOP, Disembark at range. For APCs, you may want to disembark them 2-3 hexes (1000-1500m) out from the objective and enemy. For IFVs, perhaps at 1 hex.
Practically, after issuing the movement order, edit the SOP for the movement order and adjust the SOP for that movement order. See illustration.

I understand that, but this hasn't been my experience in the game.
As an example, 2/1/117 MR should be assaulting on foot and not within their vehicles. I edited their SOP so that they disembark 3 hexes from the objective. But ATGM strikes against it kept killing BMPs along with their inhabitants. When I give them Hold orders, this ceases to be a problem and infantry are dealt with separately from their APCs.

I'm still dabbling with the game but some time ago I wondered why infantry retreating one hex in cover got back into their APC's to do so. I may be wrong about this but your post reminded me of it.

Apologies, I misunderstood your original post for not knowing how to dismount infantry.
You are doing it the right way, and you should not see so many infantry squads being taken out. That's a bug we're working on, where dismounted squads are taken out along with the vehicle despite not being mounted in the vehicle.
Update: we have a fix which is being tested.

No worries! I could have worded it differently. Wasn't sure if it was a bug or not, so was just making sure. Good to hear that you guys are working on it though - definitely needs to be addressed. Thanks!

When withdrawing, the unit executes a (new) withdraw order, which will use the default SOP. You can control the
movement mode by setting the disembark range for the default SOP.
If you set the default SOP to disembark at, say 2000m, from the objective, the unit will move dismounted to the withdraw location (unless the withdraw location is more than 2000m away).

I've put my campaign game on hold, awaiting the fix for infantry squads being taken out alongside their vehicles. Any ETA on when that might be public?

Sounds like a beta patch for that bug will be out next week at some point.

Thanks!

We are doing more testing and some additional fixes/tweaks, and we also have key team members out on vacation and conventions for the next two weeks. We are planning on a beta release of the new path in early July when everyone is back.
