Leaders Being Killed

I don't know if anybody else is having the same problem, but I am averaging a German leader being killed every couple of turns. I'm on turn 48 in the Stalingrad to Berlin Campaign and I have 16 KIA. Most of them just happen by chance and you are not notified of the deaths. I can understand if the deaths occur near the front, but some of them happen to Army Group/Army commanders far behind the front lines. The AI is just killing leaders every so often at random. I literally am having a leader killed every 3rd turn.

To begin with, it would not be bad to show the version of your game, secondly, you need at least screenshots of which headquarters where they were located at the end of your turn and at the beginning of your next turn when the commander died.

Without it, you are actually shaking the air.

Commander death can easily occur if your headquarters were moved during the enemy phase. Under no circumstances should headquarters be located on the front line.

The chance of the death of a general in the rear also exists.

Vatutin was killed in a raid by Ukrainian collaborators, and some German Nazis were destroyed by Soviet partisans deep in the rear.

Therefore, in order to have at least some idea of your situation, you must show evidence of your words.

Mayeb I have a clue. A also got my leaders killed quite often. Until I realized I made the huge mistake to HQ unguarded durig my turn. So every routed enemy unit had the potential to move "through" my unguarded HQ by chance killing the leader. I was aware of the fact to never let your HQs without protection. But I was thinking this was just true after I finished my turn. So keep your exey open for unsafe HQs during your moves also. Maybe it helps.

It is fully random and can happen anywhere. Even in hexes back home in Germany. The same holds true for Soviets as well - you can lose Konev in the Caucasus in 1941 when the frontline is still in Ukraine. They're affectionately known as "heart attacks". Just redo the logistics phase every time you see one of your leaders dying from a heart attack in the current turn's logistics report. PBEM also allows this to be a house rule, whereas the server games don't.

I'm on turn 14 of the 41 GC. So far just one leader down - Manstein! Killed by a displacement. Totally random deaths are rare but will happen from time to time. Personally I find it adds to the flavour of the game.

It can get excessive at times though. In one of my games as axis I lost 4 top tier German generals from random heart attacks over the first winter. There was no winter combat so no movement of HQs and they were all far behind the frontline. In other games, not a single general killed randomly during the logistic phase

If a leader gets killed, it would be nice to be notified on how he died. I check the Commander's Report every turn to see the fate of my generals. It just says KIA. I am using the latest patch v.1.02.52. I would post a screen shot, but I cannot remember how to take one. It has been awhile.

I am playing Axis GC at T31 on the current version and have had 2 generals KIA, one German and one Rumanian.

Yes this is also frustrating. During your logistic phase the logistics report are all refreshed so if your general dies through the opponents turn it doesn’t show in the “leaders” report.

Logistics report, leaders filter. If there are KIA leaders there it means they had a heart attack during the logistics phase.

Leader killed only shows up like an evac or depot message. So, if you display battles, there is nothing about it.

So, who wants a full autopsy here and a board of inquest?

The leader death rate is MUCH better than it used to be back in the day. This was my 1st turn Soviet turn where K62 murdered, without blind folds mind you, my Soviet leaders.
