Any difference between drop down Naval and AD Naval?

I thought the drop down Naval is only if planes have mileage to burn after assigned mission, where as a directive is their first priority?
Thanks.

Naval AD you can control where interdiction ends up.
Automatic Naval Ops/Patrol Dropdown is just spraying the whole range of your LBs with Interdiction.
Afaik they have to have no assigned AD or did not fly one (one of these two it should be).
I guess the Dropdown is some relic of another more Naval/maritime game or so,
...or this is the way to "easily" decrease the exaggertated loss of trading ships by making the waters "friendly controlled",
...or there is a specific bonus to I don't know of,
...or it's a function created for AI Air assist, which we just have access to even when playing without automated air assist.

its one of those parts to the air war that really is more relevant to WiTW but may have a very situational use in WiTE2.
In WiTW auto-naval is useful along the N African coast. Keep about 50% of the air assets spread out and they will put up enough low level interdiction to largely offset the low level axis interdiction. Will prob save you between a brigade and a division across the game (depends on how much transfers you do).
The other area is to keep a fair bit of the UK naval air in the SW of England, that will do a decent cover over the route to the Med. For a turn when you have a lot arriving or departing set up a mission just in case.
Other thing to bear in mind re naval air is it generates interdiction along the route. So you can set up 2 lines of interdiction linking to a single target hex, this can be more effective than a box. Again more for WiTW but I've seen German players use this very effectively in the Adriatic and I've closed off the Bristol Channel (around a possible D-Day turn) this way. In WiTE2 this can be effective on T1 off Latvia and sometimes around Sevastopol
