Retire ship clogs up Spaceport

If I send a few ships I captured to "Retire at spaceport xxx", they head there and the spaceport seems to completely clog up on them. No more ships are produced from the space port and the build queue just stacks way up.
The 'clogged' ship appears with a RED background and appears to stay that way forever. I have to destroy the ship just to get the spaceport back to running.
What's happening?

Deconstruction is really slow, depending on the ship's tech level and hull size. It'll get there. I suggest you move ships up/down the queue, so deconstriuction happens at the end of the queue.

Here is a line from the latest beta patch notes:
"- fixed faulty construction yard wait time when processing many retiring ships"
That makes me think this is a known issue, and one that should be resolved in the next official update.

Thank you very much. Yea, I let it sit there for hours and it just never finishes one ship, so it's a bug. Glad they are fixing it.
How do you change the queue order of ship production?

The time to retire ships is like repair times, dependent on the tech level. Advanced ships will take a long time. Distribute them to secondary spaceports, not the capital where you need to produce.

As the AI seems to prioritize ordering of ships at ports rather than planets I tend to send the ships to be retired to colonies to be retired. That way the port continues to pump out production whilst the ships retire and techs may be gleaned.
Totally anecdotal but it seems that colonies with scientist glean more technology from retiring than ones without.
