Movement Issues - What am I doing wrong here?

Playing Big Red One - US1 / SN1 and I'm having issues with movement of my Bradleys out of the starting hexes. I would appreciate if anyone could help me out: is this a bug or am I misunderstanding SOPs?
In this first image you can see my Bradley scout trying a hasty move across the river from Westhausen to north of Hartbuck. You can see how, despite the SOP being explicitly set to Roads, the Bradley is pathing across the whole map rather than crossing the highway bridge in front of it.
Moving the movement marker a little closer seems to get the Bradley to path more sensibly, but now the arrival time for this little jaunt across the river takes nearly 2 hours(!), implying the Bradley is attempting to ford/swim the river rather than use the bridge?
The odd thing is that I have no such problems with the Abrams tanks in the same scenario. This is out-of-the-box deployment on the latest Steam release, so should be replicable on anyone's end.
