New user question on targeting specific units

Hello all,

First let me say excellent work on FCSS to the team. One of the best computer wargames I have played!

To the community, is there no way to order units to specifically target a unit? I.E. two Abramsx4 units that have LOS on a unit of T-64sx16. Can I not order them to specifically target/focus that unit only? This is causing me some confusion on how and why units make their targeting choices when there are many units in the LOS.

Additionally, I have recon infantry in the same hex as enemy infantry and for a couple order cycles now they are not fighting.

Manual did not enlighten me on this.

Thanks for responses,

Cheers.

The short answer to your question regarding targeting of units is no, you can't.

The long answer is based upon the scope of the game. Flashpoint Campaigns places you in the role of brigade/regimental (and sometimes division) commander. Your job is not to direct individual units, but to see the big picture and orchestrate the battle. The tac AI handles the more mundane duties such as which unit will attack which enemy unit. I have found that the program does a pretty good job. It is better in the Southern Storm engine than it was in the Red Storm engine. However, there has been times when I have found myself yelling at my units :D .

I spent several years working in a Cavalry Squadron operation section and in a Mech Infantry operation section. I have not found a program that places me back in the TOC like Flashpoint Campaign. In Southern Storm you will find more tools than we had in Red Storm to assist you in understand the battle and in making decisions. You will find most of them under the staff buttons.

Regarding you second question. I will need to see a saved game in order to see what the problem is with the recon unit. It could be the SOP setting. Recon are small units and it is possible for them to hide in a hex even with an enemy unit in the same hex. I can't tell if that is the case or if it is a bug that is keeping them from firing. If you have a saved game, please attach to this thread and I will take a look. If need be, I will forward to one of the programmers to look at it.
