I have a commander who has a low relationship and even if I give him bonuses and gifts, the reporting screen indicates that the rolls were successful (sometimes double) and the money disappears along with the political points, but there is no display that says relationship improved. And is doesn't. What seems strange is the message does NOT indicated that the relationship improved, that part of the display is just missing. I checked on the director giving the award, and she is not stealing or corrupt as far as I can tell, and gifts to other leaders go as expected.

So, I don't know if this is bug, or there's something I can't figure out. My relation with his party is low, but I gave them several 1000 credit gifts, all to no avail. My last refuge is to get rid of him by sending him into combat against tough opponents and let him die a noble death.
Any ideas?

Hmm, check his egoism stat. Manual says egoist leaders are hard to satisfy (p. 259).

The relation boost of bribing leaders scales with their Egoism stat. The lower their Egoism, the less they care about being bribed, if their Egoism is 0, there is actually no benefit.

I never noticed that the manual says that the relationship of egoistic leaders with their salary is the opposite. It makes me wonder if this mechanic is actually working as intended...

That was it! You nailed it. I checked his ego scores and it was 00. I tried happy family and that seems to work a bit, but not sure how to manage this dude.
