If I have high priority settings on a research category that has all further techs locked behind a year limit (I have researched all techs in the category available for the current year), is my research effort wasted in some way? Or is research effort that can't be productively spent in a category anymore (perhaps even because everything in the category has been researched) automatically directed somewhere else?
