Carrier capacity and transfers

When you try and transfer a unit unit that would exceed max acapaicty the number of ac the carrier currently has turns red. That's Ok but I've just found out it isn't the number of ac being trandferred that causes it to go red but the air units max capacity that does. Not sure this is entire how benificial?
In the pic I've 18 avengers transferring to either of two CV, both with identical capacity. There should be room and there's is and aircraft numbers are not red.
I have another air unit with 18 ac but it's max ac is 36 and as you can see, aircraft numbers are red!

Yeah, it is warning that if you let the unit fill out it will exceed the carrier's capacity. Can you resize the unit back to 18?
I am not sure if a VRT squadron nearby would automatically try to bring the unit up to its 36 plane size if it was on a carrier without room for the extra 18 aircraft. And even if no VRT squadron was in the area, you would have to turn off replacements to avoid having the unit take on too many aircraft. That in turn would mean no replacement of losses.
Seems you might have to beach an 18 plane squadron of other aircraft to accommodate the 36 plane one.

He is just testing.
The question in my mind is if the ship is performing air ops with 'red' plane numbers. Meaning does the code count the 'current' or 'max potential' number.
I would expect it counts the current, otherwise that is a not so good bug...

The red warning is that transferring the full complement of squadron aircraft (36) would result in some aircraft being destroyed to get the squadron aboard.
I have had to do that with a FP det. of 2 aircraft transferring onto an R class BB which can only take one aircraft. I could not find a way to split the 2 aircraft det. I had lots of British Seagulls at the time so I just did the transfer and let one of the aircraft be destroyed. Got an extra pilot for the onboard det.

The other option instead of flying the unit to the ship, load the unit onto the ship. The extra aircraft will be in Reserve after any damage is fixed, then it can either stay there or go back to the stockpile.

That's what I expected, but it doesn't?

What I meant is did you try if they actually fly air ops? If you did & they do not, then it defo should be added to 'known issues'. I doubt they will open the code at this point to fix it, if they even can.

Carriers can exceed maximum aircraft and still fly ops. I'm not to sure on the exact percentage but I will not go over 10% over maximum.

The maximum for ops is 115% of capacity (rounding down, as always) if I recall correctly but they can still send aircraft to land bases after that. The VR squadrons can also send replacement aircraft after that as well.

<=110% without ops losses
>115% only air transfers
When you air transfer a warning pops up if the ransfer would exceed 115% on board. If you carry on the number of aircraft transferred is restricted to 115%, the rest destroyed.

Yes, the ship still only has it's normal air compliment, but you can still go to 103 ac (115%) and still fly. The bug really is only in the indication that you've exceed capacity because it's using the units max air cap as opposed to it's current, the rest work correctly.
