Interceptions

New player here trying to understand better this great, but daunting, game.

Manual is quite well done, but there is one thing more than others that eludes me, as the info almost seems contradictory. It is the rule about interceptions. Not AS missions, but real “reaction” with fighters scrambling when enemy gets close.

Can anyone please give me a piece of advice on what setting is required to improve the chances a unit will scramble and intercept enemies flying close? Any help appreciated.

Always so informative!

There are a few things you can do to increase interception
- have GS “on” through enemy turn will increase default interception
- planes/airfields have increase interception rates the closer they are to the hex in question
- low flying miles, low fatigue and good supply/fuel in airfields all increase interception rates
- more fighters in the area result in more interception
- in relation to defensive GS, if your fighters are already providing a GS command to that unit, interception is higher than if it belonged to a non-GS air group.

That being said, AS will always be more effective

Thanks all! But will having GS "on" also help with interceptions not related to GS (such as interdiction, ground attacks etc.)?

Yes. For any interdiction/ground attacks through the opponents turn, having GS on will increase the default interception rates for all air combat. Would still recommend AS first though
