Hi folks.

I suspect I know what's going on here, but I thought I'd ask for opinions.

I have an old laptop I thought would be able to run GGWAWAWD. However after a few attempts at installing I'm not getting by the splash screen. I tried on my desktop and didn't have any problem. The laptop is this one - https://www.productindetail.com/pn/leno ... iml05-81wa

Despite me presuming (wrongly it seems!) it'd be ok, am I right in thinking it's the integrated graphics preventing the game from running? My desktop has it's own videocard.

If it doesn't work I guess I can use it on my desktop, I just wanted it for travelling.

My other choice would've been the first Battle Academy, but maybe that won't run either?

Can you attach a dxdiag report from your laptop or copy and paste it in here. Have you tried updating your video drivers? I'll ask Karl to look at your post, but this info might help. It's a good guess that it has something to do with your integrated video or the drivers for it.

I've not specifically updated video drivers, but I've updated Windows, I just presumed that'd do it.

Are you trying to run the game from the launcher or directly?

Karl suggested you try adjusting your global Windows text setting back to 100% (you've got it set to 150%). Aside from that, you could also try to rename the dat/sound directory to rule out that sound is causing the problem. Those are the two ideas we have. Maybe someone will notice something else in your dxdiag that might be a clue.

Nikel, I've tried the auto run and the exe app. Auto play gets me to the splash screen where I can click on the game to play (register, forums, etc.), but it doesn't do anything else from there, just makes strange noises. Trying the exe brings up code execution can't proceed as d3dx9_43 not found.

Joel, I've tried both of those ideas to no avail. Not sure if I was to rename the bat directory to anything in particular, I just chose something random.

From install, the game defaults just to a matrix folder in the C: drive, so it's not in program files (x86) or anything - not sure if that's relevant?

Also, I can't register it as it says my Serial is already redeemed, which I don't understand.

Then you should update directX or better to patch it, because you already have DirectX 12, but that file is missing.

Now by both methods (auto run and exe) the splash screen tries to proceed but I get this prompt - "Error: Fatal can't load\dat\wawgoldart.txt".

This is over my head so thank you for your help.

So the DirectX problem is solved.

But the game is missing essential file(s), perhaps your AV software interfered with the installation of the game?

OK, I'll try a re-install, see how that goes. Off to work now though

I had one last attempt before work - success!

I re-downloaded, then installed with net and anti-virus shutdown.

It seems to have been a combination of bad files and the Windows text setting.

At 100% it's really hard for me to see things, so I tried increasing to 125% and things are still OK; I may play around with it further yet.
