When you have the opportunity to intervene etc. in an area and acquire it, is there any way to look at the map to see exactly where it is and its' value?

You can look in the base overview and search for it, or look up the location on a map service and find it on a map this way.

I have learnt quite a big of obscure geography by wargaming trying to orient myself on the map.

Thanks for the idea. However, when the event box is up and I click on Base overview button I get the audio error sound.

Ah, sorry - I had the same thought as EvT.

No, if another window is open you can't click elsewhere, so you're stuck with guessing if it's useful (Panama and Egypt are *always* useful due to canals) and whether it will cause tonnage requirements.
