North Caucasus Air Command

I'm using AI control of my air forces and it is November 9, 1941 and the North Caucasus Air Command has no AOGs assigned to it.

Will I have to manually intervene and transfer and AOG or two to it or will the AI fill it out? I really could use some AOG there right about now.

I've seen the logistics report mentioning new AOGs have arrived but I cannot locate them in the Commander's Report.

Thank you

I don't use AI air control so can't help much on this but why would you want AOGs under north caucuses air command?

You would only want AOGs assigned to Air HQs that have an active Ground Support directive and i suspect north caucus does not support any front/army?

There's three armies assigned to North Caucasus M.D. - one (hopefully) protecting the Kerch crossing and two fortifying a line along the Don and garrisoning Azov and Rostov. There IS a N. Caucasus Air Command HQ but the whole are is devoid of any air units.

I manually transfered the 101 IAD from the strategic reserves to the N. Caucasus Air Command and set the AI settings but during the turn the AI transferred the AOG to another Front so the area is devoid of air again.

Does the AI ever transfer AOGs from the reserves? I also have one air command that only has two and I know there are plenty in the reserves.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

No idea for AI Air assist sorry.

Why would you use north caucus MD though? If you have capacity in your other fronts, change your armies to those instead.

If you're out of command capacity then that's a different story.

Just to clarify, an AOG is never in the reserves. They are all on-map resources and are designed to hold or group on-map air units.

I am assuming that you understand this and are asking does the AI take multiple air units and assign them to an AOG which in turn is assigned to a front. But you also said you assigned 101 IAD to the NC Air Command but that the AI "transferred the AOG to another front". My question is what AOG? Again, the 101 IAD is just an air unit it is not an AOG. You assign one or more air units to an AOG and assign one or more AOGs to an Air Command/Air Army. If you just left 101 IAD assigned to NC Air Command, you did not put it in an AOG, period.

Just to clarify I right clicked on an airbase and selected the "Bring AOG from reserve" (so they are in the reserve). Also when the window came up I assigned the 101 IAD (which is an AOG) 5 aircraft and assigned it to the North Caucasus Air Command.

All I want to know, which hasn't been answered yet, is does the AI ever transfer AOGs from the reserve (or whatever) to an Air Command?

My bad on the 101 IAD. Yes, it is an AOG.

But this is why I said they aren't in the reserves. As you see, it says they go to the map.

The reason I said I tranferred it from the reserves is if you right click on the map on an airbase the menu says bring an AOG from the reserve.

Maybe they go to the map but I couldn't see any unused AOGs in the Commander's Report and there was a list of them in the drop down menu.

Yes, it's confusing as that drop-down list contains all AOGs that have no air groups assigned to them.

So to your question, does the AI assign units to an AOG and then that AOG to an Air Command, I have to assume it does. This is because most Soviet SAD AOGs will disband in 1942 and the air force needs more and indeed receives replacement AOGs.

The challenge with AI Air Assist as you note is you assign something to a command and the AI subsequently re-assigned it elsewhere. The "assist" nature of AI Assist is not as clear-cut as some would like it, hence a good number of folks who move away from it once they have the basics down. I can't recall any longer term players having mentioned that they have been sticking with AI Assist.

I just ever play the AI so if this AIR air assist works okay I'll stick with it. I don't mind the AI Assist handling the air - that's why I'm using it but I also would like air coverage in the Caucasus.

The longest WITE game I ever had only went into April 1942 before I got to busy with work and photography and something had to give so it was WITE. The first WITE2 game I had only lasted until January 1942 and then I lost heart in it when Ukraine was attacked. Now I'm retired so I can play WITE2 at leisure though it will always be behind my photography (sorry Joel).

I've been playing WITE, WITW and now WITE2 and I just want to play long enough to FINALLY get a 5-star general promoted.
