Can we get 8x speed back in the game? Is there a mod or something for this that anyone knows? Or a settings file I can edit?

Anyone know how to enable this? Seems really weird they gave us 8x in a previous beta but took it away.

I think it's hardcoded. Nothing to set it up, or maybe by memory manipulation.

"It was an experimental change only introduced in the experimental performance beta branch. We decided to remove it for now as it appeared to be making the stabilization of that branch to an official update harder. Just a matter of reducing the variables we were dealing with at this time. I expect that we will reintroduce it in a future beta. "

I can hardly play the game at 1x speed and stay sane, do we really need this?

I mean, the time and effort from the developer to make it stable and not steal away development time from more important things.

We do plan to add it back in at some point in the future, after we make more improvements to memory management/usage and the notification system.

And another! I never take it off 1x, even in Pre-Warp.

But I won't tell others they should enjoy the game the same way I do, so I hope you get your 8x speed.

+1 to all of that. Excited that 8x will be an option for those who want it, and hopefully didn't imply otherwise. But yeah, 1x speed is my friend, and I really love the slow burn of pre-warp at 1x (confession: I often read a book or play an instrument and just listen for the notification bell until enough activity demands my regular attention. Which, IMO, is awesome for how limited my free time can be).

Yes, 8x (or even 6x) would be great!

My default is to play at 4x speed and only slow things down when combat or odd events/interactions happen.

1x by default?!? To each his own, but ain't nobody got time for that!!!
