Ships leaving fleet on their own, why? Then autobuild replaces them by building new ships.

For some reason ships, including some with an admiral, seem to decide to just leave their fleet. I add them back and they tend to leave.

Then with autorefill on for fleets, I started building a bunch of ships to replace those who left the fleet. All over the place.

So I have fleets that lost their ships, those ships are close by won't rejoin, and new ships being built on the other side of the empire to replace them.

All of this a rather unplanned economic hit to boot.

This is the second game in a row (both under latest patch) this happens, once I'm starting to hit mid-game and having about a half dozen or so fleets.

I have no idea why, but it is incredibly annoying.

You should not allow the AI to manage the fleets if you want to interfere with them, I would advice to control all of that yourself instead. You can still automate the ships in terms of what missions they go on if set to automatic. But you should control the make up of the fleet, where they are stationed and when they refit and so on.

You can customize this in the automation policy part of the game. There also are some automation setting in the fleet template section you might want to enable or disable as well.

This is the result of a policy called "Fleet Ship Management".
