Hi all
Is there a time limit to do ship upgrade. I have a red message saying that "This upgrade has been missed"... A bit annoying...

Yes. You can still upgrade the ship even with the red message showing.

Usually the time limit is about 3 months or when the next upgrade is ready. Don't worry about missing one - when you do the next upgrade the one you missed will be taken into account so the timing of the subsequent upgrade goes a bit longer - usually not as long an extension as the full length of the missed upgrade. For example if you missed the upgrade of 14 days length and you start a subsequent upgrade of 21 days length, the combined upgrade length might only be 31 days instead of 35.
Another thing to watch on upgrades is conversions. Some, like conversions of old DDs to APDs might disappear after you do an upgrade so choose carefully! Even look at a couple of upgrades ahead to see what new conversions become available. One of the Dutch CMs (Rigel, I think) can convert to an AR in Jan. 43 after it has done 2 or 3 upgrades. ARs are one of the most needed ships in the game!

For those old battleships, simply upgrade them when repairing them.
Also, as Allies you will also need as many AEs as you can if you are going to do prolonged actions so I convert every C2A class vessel to the AE. Those are 16 knot xAKs that carry 5600 of dry cargo and 200 of liquid cargo. Those are basically the only ships that carry the largest shells for your Iowa class battleships and as a plus, they can also supply ammo at sea starting on 1 January 1945. If you upgrade those cargo vessels, you can NOT convert them to AEs.
There are also about 10 or so 14 knot C1A cargo vessels that carry 4550 of dry cargo and I convert those to xAPs. When combined in a Task Force, they can usually carry one division of troops spread equally across the task force so they should be unloaded at about the same time. If you need/want to, there are 14 knot Allied xAKs that you can pair them with to carry more equipment heavy units as well as supplies. Try to have every unit carried by at least two vessels because you do not want to lose a unit if the only vessel that they are on is sunk.
Protect your APs and AKs until they convert to APAs and AKAs because you will need those for you large amphibious invasions because they unload a lot faster. I usually send them to the East Coast to send supplies to the Panama Canal Zone so the xAKs that arrive there can load supplies there and depart for the Pacific without having to travel to the West Coast.
