I suppose they are thought to be to vulnerable in the skies over Ukraine? But something tells me the UA would figure out a way to use them. Just a thought.

Ukraine has been using Su-25s pretty effectively as flying artillery, launching huge rocket salvoes at a distant and then hauling ass back to base.
I don't think the A-10 would have the luxury of hanging around and firing Mavericks at sort of stand off ranges like it did during the Gulf War, but it could be useful in the same way the Su-25 is being used.
It would be wild to see an A-10 firing Soviet S-8KO and S-25 rockets.

Don't the Mavericks, at least in theory, have a longer range than the rockets?

Yes, but I’m pretty sure the A-10 would need to be at altitude for them to be effective.
All CAS aircraft in Ukraine currently fly very low, and then pop up to let off a salvo of rockets before turning back.
The only aircraft using “tactical” guided munitions like ATGMs are helicopters.

The A10 was used above MANPAD range to pretty good effect vs Iraqi ground sites. There is an excellent book:
Warthog: Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War that goes into how they modified tactics to use the system in ways never imagined

Thanks for the link!
On Thursday, the 354th Fighter Squadron out of Davis–Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, arrived in the CENTCOM region, said the senior defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity under rules established by the Pentagon.
But it is not said exactly where
And the area of responsibility (AOR), is not small.

They could but it takes time to learn a new aircraft and the idea of the "Can we send X to Ukraine?" this or that weapons system being the "magic bullet" is silly.
The Su-25 has a much higher top speed, is smaller and is more based around its missiles instead of the gun, they aren't identical. Smaller and more maneuverable is better at being able to fly between the trees the army cut down. US A-10's have newer more advanced systems vs the older AFU Su-25's. Only a small part of the RUAF Su-25's got the glass cockpit/modern weapons systems upgrades.
AFU Su-25 and helicopter pilots fly suicide descending below treetops once they reach the front line, they even have ground troops cut down power lines, trees and other obstructions to get better flight pathing that avoids going high and getting locked up by a SAM or a Su-35. Modern RU SAM sites can go from target detected to weapons hot in less than 5 seconds so there is zero room for mistake - flying above radar horizon for even a few seconds is very dangerous, but still they fly and prove the NATO generals wrong about the survivability of A-10 style aircraft on a modern battlefield.
AFU Su-27's and MiG-29's are used for GA or intercepting incoming missiles and drones as a successful engagement of their modern counterparts is almost impossible.
