See the attached scenario. I've got a TSARH missile shot that isn't re-acquiring the aircraft missile guidance despite being the only missile in flight, and the aircraft's radar is oriented toward the targets. So it seems to be waiting for x amount of time regardless of why.

My assumptions are:

These kinds of missiles can be dropped from guidance and then re-establish contact for endgame guidance.
The cases when they would drop guidance are when the target is no longer in the radar's arc or there or more TSARH missiles in the air that can be guided at one time, and like SM-2s etc. they are guided closest to target first.
In all cases, guidance should be reconnected if possible. The only time it shouldn't is in my second assumption.

Am I right and is this a bug? Is the aircraft radar verticle arc not lined up?

Just looking at the aircraft's radar.

It can track 1 aircraft but may be right on edge of tracking given characteristics.

I tried with a Flanker SM3 with a better radar and seemed to get better results.

Its got to be the radar right?

N001 has single target track, which it will switch to once it has designated the target. The radar then should do nothing else until the end of the engagement or the missile shot is trashed. It should, btw, boresight the target to place it in the centre of the much narrower STT beam.

IRL the missile needs to have illumination all the time, if it loses illumination for any reason it will be a shot trashed and it will IRL self-destruct after a set distance/time (no one wants rogue 4 metre missiles flying around with blast frag warheads).

In your scenario, the missile has gone blind (lost lock) so should, if modelled correctly, fly for a few more Km, then it goes bang. As soon as the shot is trashed, nothing should stop the radar re-acquiring and having another go.

The rationale behind this is old school PVO tactics of Shoot-Shoot-Look (ish) where a SARH is sent with a 'heater' to double the chances of a kill. Its how they killed the KAL jet and if they had done it correctly, then the RAF would be down a Rivet Joint.

Think the modified Slot Back in the SM benefits from better/faster electronics of a newer era, so should have fewer issues. but the limit is with the missile and its the same Alamo C whether its from a P or an SM2/3(or a SU-30 or 33 or 34 or 35), if it goes blind and stays blind for more than a few seconds, the shot is trashed
