Using the Axis minors' air force?

Whats the best use of the HUN/ROM/SLK airforce on the southern front?

I assume its OK to employ their bombers in ground support missions, but what about their fighters? I tried to incorporate them under the umbrella of Luftlotte 4 and have them fly alongside my BF-109s, but they seem to be taking high losses.

Which makes me think that all that iam achieving is that I provide XP to the Soviet pilots.

On the other hand, my own fighter force is pretty depleted too (the game is on T8 against a challanging SOV AI) so I feel that I need all the help I can get.

The HUN "Heja"-s and the RUM non-WW1 planes should be somewhat capable in an AA engagement, right?

Thanks,

IMO, use them for turn 1, day 1 airbase bombing and forget about them after that. Except for Romanian recon planes until you've cleared Transnistria.

Assuming you play with open theater boxes, the best use of them is to send them to theater boxes (for most of them other than Italians, you can only send to the Soviet Union Garrison).

They can provide a lot of theater box value for the fighter/bomber/patrol sub-sections.

It is better not to use them on the map, not only because they use supply, but also when you use them you give the Soviet fighter pilots free kills, which raises the experience levels of the Soviet fighters, and then the Soviets are better at shooting down German planes as a result.

Using them in the box is the only way, they still exist after a few months.
Their replacement production is enough to keep them going as a help for the garison and that helps a lot.
On the map, you just burn through them rather fast and give your mediocre opponent the chance to train his air force.
