WITE 1 options vs WITE2 options

I recently started looking through WITE1 again, at some old saves. I checked the option screen and it hit me just how much functionality we've lost in the sequel.

Here's WITE2:

And here's WITE1:

We've lost a number of crucial things here, some that I'd forgotten about. For one, non-random weather. I don't see a reason for this being removed as an option.

Another, reduced blizzard effect. To quote the old manial ": On/Off; when on some of the First Winter rules are altered. Simply put Combat Value Modifications are no longer random, in worst case they should be equivalent to the old rules' best case or slightly better, and the player can mitigate those effects to a certain degree by using forts and cities of all sizes" Not entirely my cup of tea unless there's a skill mismatch, but the option was nice. Why remove it?

Another, the Soviet combat bonus. Simply put, Soviets used to get a flat +1 to attack or defence, or none, depending on the option picked. So 1.5:1 odds would go to 2.5:1 and be a win. Likewise for defence, germans need 3:1 to win instead of 2:1. A solid option to have for your games.

The final thing is better CV math - though I won't comment on this, as it's very possible this was baked in in the sequel or something. I also confess that it's possible the combat bonus was baked in, but to my knowledge it wasn't.

Why have we stepped back in terms of game settings?

The weather system being totally different in WitE2, there is no direct way to have a "non-random weather". We'd have to somehow come up with not only a static weather each turn for each zone, but also paths of weather fronts across the map. So yes, there is no way to do a set weather, but we believe the improvement in the weather system makes up for that. It does add a new major variable to each game.

This was developed by morvael after release of WitE1 over many years. Given the variable weather and the different first winter rules in WitE2, we think it's an improvement over WitE1 (but you it's true you don't have a choice).

AFAIK this Soviet bonus never existed in the design of WitE2 so nothing to opt out of.

I could be wrong about this, but I have some recollection of trying to build in some of morvael's WitE1 CV math changes into WitE2, but I could be wrong about that.
