Distance Based Martitime Logistics

Ok - being playing a big complicated game with lots of MTH logistics and events. A biggy thats become apparent to me is that I think Maritime Logistics needs a distance decay function as currently done with the land based logistics.

Why?

As it currently stands it makes no differences if you have 2 ports (Destination / Embarkation) 2 hexes away or 20 hexes away....I think this limits the strategic gamely and intuitively doesnt make sense either...

I think it would promote more strategic gameplay if you have a decay of Maritime logistics points as more distance is covered....this would encourage more planned island hopping etc as opposed to just being able to compete form anywhere on the planet.....Maybe say no decay for first 10-20 hexes (or even dynamic based on planet size...) then increasing decay... over a certain distance.....

Yes, I agree and I mentioned a similar thing about air force ranges before. It makes no difference whether you're operating short range or at the end of the unit's capability.

In reality, shorter ranges for both aircraft and ships means more sorties/voyages per unit time (i.e., a turn in our case) and that effectively acts as a multiplier for effectiveness (or divider depending on how you want to balance things).

I thought it is accounted somewhat with air units in their "readiness"????....Im fairly sure the longer the distance they fly the more readiness they use - so this has the effect of reducing their effectiveness and potentially meaning they cant operate turn after turn at longer ranges...

That is true for air units as currently implemented. But I never liked that method of simulating readiness of air units. Unlike ground units, for air (and naval), readiness shouldn't reduce the range of the equipment (the aircraft can still fly as far), but instead, it should reduce the number of sorties (or voyages) which reduces effectiveness at full range, not the range itself.
