At the beginning of this action, I ordered the CV division attached to the "main force" to provide CAP to BB division 1 and the CV divisions in the "carrier force" divided the other two BX divisions between them. Now an enemy air attack is approaching my battleships, and lo! and behold! there isn't any CAP over them. I go to look at the carrier groups and the "provide CAP to" line is empty. More insubordinate admirals! I didn't check every turn, but I suspect this happens the same way the refusal of independent squadrons to "core" on another one, that is, they'll keep the order for a couple of turns, sometimes for the long run, but often abandon it after several turns. The only way to be sure is to go back and check every couple of minutes.

This is what makes me somewhat happy when my country goes communist or fascist and I have that purge event come up. Yeah, baby, shoot every one of those insubordinate swine!

Appears to be happening when you save a battle midway and reload later the orders have been cleared. Not 100% sure, but give it a try.

This is still happening.

In the attached save game, I had assigned 1st Carrier to give CAP to CA div 20 and 2nd Carrier to give CAP to 1st BC. When I reopened the save game, the CAP orders had disappeared and the enemy immediately took advantage and their strike planes hit my defenseless ships. Blood pressure shoots up.
