Thoughts after playing 5+ hours..

I bought Distant Worlds 2 last night and already put 5 hours in. 2 hour learning curve but things are starting to make sense and form up nicely. I like all the micro and simulation of leading a space-faring empire. Really in-depth and there is still much to learn. I come from a rival space 4X game that shall not be named so I have a little history with the genre and will be sticking with DW2 for some time as the sheer scope of everything with DW2 is far greater.
Right now I've come across 2 independent factions and 3 pirate factions, 2 of which are destroyed. However the 3rd pirate faction is much more powerful and has laid ruin to my entire escort fleets. Their tech is far better than mine and they are harassing every station I own. Currently they hate me too much to pay them off so I'm in a bit of a pickle. Hopefully I won't need to restart as I'm doing well otherwise.
Any tips for a newbie would be appreciated.
My only real gripes with Distant Worlds 2 is the graphics could be better (minor complaint) and the UI could be more fluid. Learning the UI is really key to everything from what I've learned so far. Wish it was a bit more streamlined. I just have the base game and will most likely purchase the DLC at a later date. Overall I'm having a great time. Thanks Devs for your hard work.
