Hi all
The new official patch has come out and it looks massive and I cant wait to download it and start a campaign, however I am currently playing Stalingrad to Berlin campaign I have a AAR going.
In the past I have been told that its OK to download and update with new patches, but this is a monster with new OOB's plus everything else including the kitchen sink.
I am currently on official patch 1.02.52, now I know you don't get all the benefits from new patches with old games and that's fine but the size of this patch and the fact it has a new OOB for Germany makes me wonder whether to hold off, I have put a lot into this AAR and want to see it through which could take me up to a year because of the rate of me posting my turns which range from 1 week to 2 weeks per turn.

So the question is

Should I risk upgrading to the new official patch or play it safe and remain on 1.02.52, if I download the new patch and something happens all the hours and work going into the AAR will be lost.

So will the new patch be safe for my current game ?

You have 3 choices.

1. Don't do anything. Wait until you finish your AAR before updating.

2. If you are comfortable enough with working with installation folders... Install a second copy of WITE2 elsewhere on your system WITHOUT overwriting your AAR installation. Update this brand new installation to the latest update. Copy your AAR save files from your old installation to the new updated installation and test it out to see if your AAR save starts up without any observable glitches. Don't delete your old installation right away, in case you stumble on a glitch that wasn't obvious immediately. This method would be my choice given your time investment because it allows you to see if your AAR functions correctly running under the updated game executable and if it doesn't you can just carefully delete your NEW/second installation and go back to your original AAR installation.

3. Rely on this statement in the What's New PDF and update your current AAR installation directly. (Given the time investment issue, this would NOT be my choice regardless of the statement below.)

IMPORTANT NOTE 1: All save game and scenario files created with this or later versions may only be loaded with this or a later version. Versions prior to 1.03.03 may not load these newer save game or scenario files. Old saves and scenarios may be loaded with this and newer versions.
IMPORTANT NOTE 2: The extensive changes made to the OB and map files in 1.03.03 will require that any modded scenario created prior to 1.03.03 will need to have their generic data locked using generic data from 1.02.52 or an earlier version. If you are going to start a modded scenario that was created prior to 1.03.03, make sure that you are using a version of the scenario that had its generic data locked.

Provided you weren't using a modded scenario to start your AAR, important Note 1 is the only one to pay attention to.
