With the sale going on I decided to purchase this along with the map pack for $20 each along with Pike and Shot. Years ago when this was first announced I was eagerly awaiting release. I haven't kept up and don't know the full story but seems like it got to a point where it was decided to cut losses and forget making it with a fully functional AI.

Game does look nice. Don't know what exactly I got for $20...

Map should be nice. Shipping cost more that the actual product. Don't have room to mount it unless I mount on ceiling. Still for $20 plus $27 shipping why not?

Earlier this year there was still work going on for an AI for the Barbarossa scenario and beta testers had been recruited.

Test versions were released in August, September and October.

Quite the opposite, the game works well except for some very disgusting bugs or improvable features, and (probably to cut loses, as you say) they left it as it is and went for the AI. Consider that that would multiply by 5 , 10 or many more the possiblilities of sale.

Problem is that that developement seems to have stalled too.

I bet (and I hope I am wrong) it may be a health issue of Steven (the programmer), because he has many years relentlessly (is there that word) working in the game earlier...

I'll have to take a look and see whats up with AI. Its not an easy thing to do and something that looks this complicated is probably a beast. Maybe in 5 years Slitherine can buy some NVIDIA H100s and have a human like AI opponent for games. As scary as it sounds it looks like we're headed in that direction.

In the meantime I'll get around to getting my sea legs in WIF.

I think it would be cheaper for Matrix to pay me to be a "wizard of Oz" AI opponent...
