Proactive objectives

Post by CaptainVlad »

Howdy, loving the game, it's costing me sleep, and have many thoughts and suggestions, but just posting this one for now.

Has there been any consideration of letting players proactively pick an objective in an area that might lead to a battle, other than the invasions? For example, I recently had a huge, awesome battle off the Florida coast and thought to myself that, if I were really in charge of the U.S. Navy at war with Britain in that situation, I would do my best to keep paying friendly visits to Grand Bahama and Nassau and bombarding the crap out of the airfields there.

So I thought I might make the suggestion of letting us pick targets for certain actions each turn, that might lead to a battle if the enemy chose to oppose them. Examples might include airfield bombardment or having a go at some shore batteries you'd like gone or suppressed, minelaying off enemy bases, maybe recon flights over particular enemy facilities, shore bombardment in support of an invasion, etc. The battles do a decent job of not seeming as random as some other games, but it might be nice to have situations develop specifically because of something you're trying to accomplish.

Just a suggestion/thought.
